Gregg Paley Fishing in the Tropical Island Paradise of Isla Secas, Panama

Gregg Paley has fished in many interesting places around the world but the adventures in Panama always seem to be the most unique. Paley’s first trip to Panama was the world famous Tropic Star Lodge which included landing a small plane on a grass runaway in the middle of the jungle and a panga boat ride with the luggage and fishing gear in an alligator infested canal before finally reaching the exclusive resort.

Paley’s most recent trip to hunt marlin in Panama was on the private island of Isla Secas which is 35 miles off the southern coast of Panama and provides access to some of the most fertile fishing grounds anywhere in the world. Huge yellow fin tuna in excess of 100 pounds are regularly caught and three different species of marlin swim in the waters including blue marlin, black marlin and striped marlin as well as very large pacific sailfish. Although we caught tuna, grouper and one good size sailfish there were no marlin caught on the trip.

Unfortunately the fishing was a little slow but the food was five star quality as we had a personal chef who prepared our catch of the day and a separate bakery chef whipping up the elegant but tasty desserts. The accommodations were also very unique with an individual round yurt for each guest providing ample space and awesome views of the surrounding jungles.

When Gregg Paley decides to take a trip it’s usually not your run of the mill vacation and this adventure was no exception…what’s next?About Gregg Paley
